Air quality monitoring

District-collected carbon dioxide data

Carbon dioxide builds up over the day in classrooms that are poorly ventilated. Portland Public Schools sometimes monitors or obtains carbon dioxide measurements using equipment that the district owns, or via contractors placing carbon dioxide monitors in classrooms. All schools had a smattering of carbon dioxide measurements taken before a return to in-person learning in the IAQ reports, but this data is not very useful because it was a one-time measurement when kids were not in class. Here is information about a subset of schools carbon dioxide data collected by PPS since March 2021 – other than the one-off measurement from the IAQ reports:

Boise-Eliot – no data collected between March 1, 2021 and Feb 10, 2023

George – CO2 data may be available via digital controls – still discussing this with PPS staff

Harrison Park – no data collected between March 1, 2021 and September 24, 2022

Hayhurst – no data collected between March 1, 2021 and September 24, 2022

Kelly – no data collected between March 1, 2021 and Feb 10, 2023

Two types of equipment used by district staff to collect carbon dioxide data: OnSet HOBO’s, TSI IAQ 7545

Contractors might use different equipment
